Trip to Finnish forest includes nature’s basic elements, camping and picking berries of the season, e.g. cloudberries, blueberries, lingon berries or cranberries.

In the autumn also mushroom picking is possible. After the activity it’s time to relax by campfire with some drinks and Finnish style pancakes prepared on the fire.

Walking trip in Finnish nature

Trip to Korouoma nature reserve

Korouoma is an approximately 30 kilometres long and up to 130 meters deep canyon fracture valley. Canyon and its high cliffs form a breathtaking landscape to enjoy throughout the year. Korouoma is at the Region of Koillismaa in Southern Lapland. The area’s landscape is exceptionally rugged and grand.

Trip includes transportation from the Safari house to Korouoma, guidance and lunch prepared by the guide at the National Park campfire site.

Guided fishing trip on a lake

Join a traditional Finnish fishing trip to a lake! Angling, casting or “ice fishing” from a boat offers a fun way to step out into the fresh air, relax and enjoy a moment.. Fishing offers a relaxing and exciting experience at the same time!

You don’t need previous fishing experience as the guide will instructs you to the secrets of the sport. Finally, we stop by the campfire to enjoy drinks and prepare caught fish for tasting.

Guided canoe trip on the lake Ranuanjärvi

Welcome to a canoe trip to the lake! Guide will teach you the basics of paddling before going out on the water. Enjoy the wonderful scenery and fresh air while paddling a canoe.

After returning to the beach, we enjoy snacks and drinks by the campfire. Join us for an unforgettable adventure in the heart of nature! It is also suitable for first-timers and the routes are chosen according to skill level.

Reindeer farm visit

Available between 26th of June- 30th of October

Every Wednesday at 15.00, please note that this is the  starting time at the reindeer farm. The visit needs to be pre-booked!

Visit a local reindeer farm where you’ll get to know the animals as well as feed them. Listen to the stories about the reindeers year and if you are lucky, you’ll get to see newborn reindeers.

Recommended to use rubber boots, also take the water bottle and camera with you.

Midnight sun carriage ride with Finnhorse

Experience the light summer night on a carriage ride with Finnhorse! This activity takes you through the Finnish countryside. Finnhorse is the only Finnish origin horse breed living in Finland and a big part of the Finland’s history.

This activity takes you in a horse carriage to the nearby family farm. In the farm you will meet typical Lappish farm animals, such as Finnhorses, Lapland cow, Lapphund, sheep and chickens.

You will have a chance to try milking a cow and collect chicken eggs from their nests. From the gathered ingredients you will prepare some delicious Finnish style pancakes on fire in the Lappish hut.

Get to know the Arctic Borealis Huskies in Ranua with a kennel visit. Arctic Borealis husky kennel is located about 60 km from Ranua Resort.

The host and hostess will introduce you to the huskies and kennel and tell their story. You also get to go to a space with 25-40 dogs. This space is called the huskies’ running enclosure. You will have the opportunity to pet the dogs and see how different each dog is in its character, movements and play.

Summer fun with huskies

Visit the Arctic Borealis husky kennel located 60 km from the Ranua Resort.

First, you get training on how to ride ‘sleds’ that now have tires! After that, together with the huskies, we head to a 3-5 km route, depending on the weather. Please note that there is a temperature limit of max +12 degrees (celcius) for the huskies to run.

There are a few stops on the way where you can take pictures and give water to the dogs. When we return to the kennel, we let the dogs loose in their running enclosure. This is a chance to pet the dogs and see how different each dog is in its character, movements and play. Before leaving, we enjoy a moment in the kennel’s hut with soft drinks.

Searching Aurora Borealis by car

Scan the sky and look for the Aurora Borealis in the Autumn darkness!

The Aurora Borealis season starts already in late August. Guide will take you to the best locations by car and with a little luck, there is a bright sky, lit by the moon and the stars. Perhaps the Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights – will appear to show you the way.

Please note, that the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights, are natural phenomena caused by solar wind and even though it is possible to predict the appearance, it cannot be guaranteed. Also, the weather conditions have great impact on the visibility – if there are clouds or it is raining or snowing, it is not possible to see the Northern lights.

Northern lights safari with Finn horse

Cloudberry sauna experience

Feel a comprehensive cloudberry experience, through the relaxing and renewing cloudberry products in the privacy of your holiday accommodation. There is also option to ask a Sauna professional to come to your villa or Igloo to tell more from the products.

Cloudberry sauna is a sauna treatment where the products in use are locally made in Ranua, and the main ingredient – cloudberry leaf, is picked from Ranua swamps. Cloudberry indulgence products are organic, ecological,  and does not contain fragrances, parabens, or synthetic chemicals.

Cloudberry indulgence is pampering treatment for the whole body: a wash with cloudberry shampoo, cloudberry leaf face mask in sauna, cloudberry leaf bath for feet, body treatment with cloudberry leaf oil and cloudberry wool stone. After the sauna the cloudberry face cream is used, and you get to taste cloudberry marshmallows. Sauna hats and sauna bench cover are used during the treatment.

This is an unique chance to experience a Finnish sauna in the arctic woods!

Private sauna draft waits you on the pond next to the Wildlife Park! Pond is located in the middle of the woods, about 1 km walk from the safari house.

Your host will guide you to the location and takes care of heating of the wood burn sauna stove and prepares the campfire for you to enjoy. There is a log cabin by the pond where you can spend time.

Price incl. the host’s services, bath robes, sausages to grill and soft drinks.

Craft workshop by Paula

Create  your own souvenir from Lapland with a local craft artist!

Together with her guidance, you make a reindeer skin puch or wooden cup “kuksa”. There is also a own craft workshop for children.

The craft workshop is organized at the Ranua Wildlife Park’s hut, which is located right next to the ticket office.

All workshops are for minimum of 4 people and maximum for 36 people.

Enjoy the local arts and crafts workshop and make a lovely reindeer ornament. Ornaments and necklaces are made from the materials such as reindeer bone and antler beads, cardboard, fabrics and genuine leather and other seasonal products from nature. Mrs Paula will guide the children to make their own souvenir from Lapland.

WOODEN CUP “KUKSA” WITH DECORATION, 45 min

Mrs Paula will give instructions to decorate the traditional Lappish wooden cup with the wood burning pen. The price includes the guidance, stories behind the products as well as the decorated souvenir.

CLASSIC REINDEER LEATHER POUCH, 1 h

The pouch is made of genuine reindeer leather. The leather is cut in correct shape and you will get to sew it together with a string of your choice (hemp, jute, or leather) .

After sewing the pouch, the string will be decorated with Lappish ornaments, such as wooden beads and beads made of genuine rein-deer bone and antler. Final touch is made with some extra décor, e.g. reindeer hide. The price includes the guiding of the crafts process, stories behind products as well as the self-made souvenir.
