CEO Johanna Koivunen leaves Ranua Resort

Johanna Koivunen has decided to resign as CEO of Ranuan Seudun Matkailu Oy. The company’s operations will continue as normal, and the recruitment of a new CEO will begin as soon as possible.

Koivunen has led Ranuan Seudun Matkailu Oy since the beginning of 2021. Her tenure as CEO has been a period of significant change, renewal and growth for Ranua Resort.

“Now feels like the right time to pass the responsibility on to someone new. I have had the privilege of helping guide Ranua Resort through a significant period of change and growth. I leave my position feeling grateful and proud of everything we have achieved together with the staff, the Board, the owner and our partners,” says Johanna Koivunen.

Major investments and strong growth

Under Koivunen’s leadership, the company overcame the cash flow crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and renewed its strategy, business plan and brand. The company’s previous brands were brought together under the shared Ranua Resort brand.

During Koivunen’s tenure, the company has prepared and carried out major investments in the area’s infrastructure, staff and production facilities, and the modernisation of the wildlife park area. Every area of the company’s business has been developed, while sales and marketing have been strengthened both in Finland and internationally.

The company’s revenue grew from approximately EUR 3.1 million in 2021 to EUR 7.3 million in 2025. In 2025, the company also purchased goods and services worth nearly EUR 1.6 million from businesses based in Ranua.

Ranua Resort’s sustainability work has been strengthened through the EcoCompass and Sustainable Travel Finland certifications. Investments in staff development and wellbeing led to Great Place to Work certification in 2025 and 12th place in the Finland’s Best Workplaces listing in 2026.

Ranua Resort’s operations will continue as normal

The Board of Ranuan Seudun Matkailu Oy will begin the recruitment process for a new CEO as soon as possible. Koivunen will contribute to ensuring an orderly handover of her duties.

Ranua Resort will continue to develop its operations and services, as well as tourism in the Ranua region. The company’s strong financial and operational foundation, together with its skilled staff, provides an excellent starting point for the future and the next stage of development.
