Arriving at Ranua Resort

star

Ranua Resort is easy to reach both by car and by public transport. There is a spacious parking area in front of the resort, where you can leave your car safely during your visit. The parking area can also accommodate larger vehicles, such as coaches.

There are four marked accessible parking spaces in the upper section of the parking area, near the fence.

Public transport bus stops are located right in front of Ranua Resort, along Rovaniementie. The walk from the bus stop to the area is short. When arriving, please note that the condition of the walking routes may vary depending on the season and weather conditions.

You can read more about arriving at Ranua Resort by car or public transport on our website under Ranua Resort, Arrival.

Courtyard and location of services

From the parking area, you can access the Ranua Resort courtyard. The courtyard area includes Wild Arctic Restaurant, the Wildlife Park ticket office, Fazer shop, Café Bubo, Murrrmurrr Castle and the Teddy Bear Exhibition. The reception for Holiday Villas, Safari House and activity services are located  on the other side of the Murrrmurrr castle.

Services are located within the same courtyard area, which makes it easier to move around the area and understand the routes. Before your visit, you can take a look at the area map, which shows the locations of the parking area, ticket office, restaurant, WC facilities and other services. The map is especially helpful when planning a visit with mobility aids, a pram, an assistance dog or a group that requires assistance.

Walking routes and weather conditions

The walking routes in the courtyard area are outdoor routes, which means that snow, ice, rain, sanding gravel and other weather conditions may affect how easy they are to use. During the winter season, we recommend allowing a little extra time for arrival and moving between services. Our staff will be happy to help you find the right building or route.

WC facilities

WC facilities are located in different areas of Ranua Resort. More detailed information about the locations of WC facilities, accessible and gender-neutral toilets, and the Toilet Card can be found further down the page under WC Facilities.

Additional guidance before arrival

If you need additional guidance for your arrival or would like to confirm information about walking routes in advance, you are welcome to contact our staff. We are happy to help make the beginning of your visit as smooth as possible.

Wildlife Park ticket office and Wildlife Park route

Wildlife Park ticket office

The Wildlife Park ticket office is located next to Wild Arctic Restaurant. There are no steps or thresholds at the entrance to the ticket office.

Entrance wristband

You can purchase entrance tickets to the Wildlife Park in advance from our online store or on site at the ticket office. When you purchase your ticket from the online store, you will receive an entrance wristband from the ticket office.

The entrance wristband is valid for the whole day during the Wildlife Park’s opening hours. You may leave the Wildlife Park area, for example, to eat or visit another service in the courtyard area, and return to the Wildlife Park on the same day. Please keep your wristband on throughout your visit.

The EU Disability Card entitles the holder’s assistant to free entry to the Wildlife Park. Please show a valid EU Disability Card at the ticket office when purchasing or collecting your entrance tickets.

Ticket office services

There are two service desks at the ticket office. From the ticket office, visitors enter the Wildlife Park through automatic gates.

At the ticket office, you can take along a printed Wildlife Park map. The map is available in Finnish and in English and includes information about Ranua Resort, the Wildlife Park map and the species living in the Wildlife Park. You can also view the map online on our website:: Ranua Resort – Wildlife Park map. Along the route, each animal species has an information sign in Finnish and English, with pictures to support the text.

You can also ask the ticket office staff for buggies, wheelchairs and other mobility aids. More information is available under Mobility aids and children’s pushchairs.

WC facilities near the ticket office

There are two WC facilities in connection with the ticket office, as well as an accessible and gender-neutral WC.

WC facilities are also located at the end of the ticket office building, on the courtyard side. If needed, our staff will guide you to the WC facilities.

There are also WC facilities inside the Wildlife Park, right near the entrance. These facilities have separate toilets for men and women, but no accessible or gender-neutral WC. The WC facilities inside the Wildlife Park can be used during your Wildlife Park visit without leaving the Wildlife Park area. This is worth noting especially during the summer season if you move from the Wildlife Park to the domestic animal yard.

Wildlife Park route

Route and accessibility

The Wildlife Park route is approximately 2,8 kilometres long. The route runs through a forest environment, where visitors move along outdoor walking paths. Path is partly on wooden boardwalk and partly along a gravel road.

The Wildlife Park route has some steep uphill and downhill sections. The route is accessible with mobility aids, but the gradient, ground surface and weather conditions should be taken into account when planning your visit. In winter, some uphill and downhill sections may be slippery, even if the route has been gritted.

Not all enclosures offer the same accessible view from a wheelchair or from a lower viewing height as they do when viewed while standing. This is worth taking into account when planning your visit.

We recommend allowing plenty of time for the Wildlife Park route. A calm pace makes the visit more enjoyable, especially when visiting with mobility aids, a pushchair or small children.

The animals’ home

The Wildlife Park is the animals’ home. During the day, the animals may rest, sleep or spend time in their shelters, and they may not always be visible during a visit. In the Wildlife Park, visitors may also notice louder animal sounds and stronger natural smells. These are part of the animals’ daily life, natural rhythm and well-being.

You can learn more about the animal species living in the Wildlife Park on our website: Wildlife Park – Animals

Rest areas and WC facilities

There are several rest areas along the route. Accessible and gender-neutral WC facilities are located around the halfway point of the Wildlife Park route. These WC facilities are located near the Polar bear and brown bear viewing areas, along the gravel road.

Services along the route

During the summer season, there are two kiosks along the route where you can buy, for example, coffee, refreshments and ice cream. The kiosks are closed during the winter season.

Around the halfway point of the Wildlife Park route, in the area near the wolverine enclosure, there is a lean-to shelter with a campfire site. The campfire site is available for use when the fire warning situation allows it, and there is no wildfire warning in effect. During dry periods in summer, lighting a fire may be prohibited for safety reasons.

There is a playground near the lean-to shelter. More information about the playgrounds is provided further down this page.
